At NC State University, Dr. Frey has had 79 sponsored research projects with a total value of $12.8 million since 1994.

Aside from his own research portfolio, in his current role as Associate Dean of Research and Infrastructure, he supports over 400 faculty in the NC State College of Engineering who, along with staff, students, and collaborators across NC State and inter-institutionally, have a research enterprise with expenditures of approximately $260M annually.

Of Dr. Frey’s 79 sponsored projects to date at NC State, Dr. Frey was the PI of 62 of them, serving as the sole PI for 44 projects and the lead PI for a senior team on 18 projects. The latter included several inter-institutional teams. Support for Dr. Frey’s research includes federal agencies (EPA, NSF, USDOT, DOE, USDA, NOAA), state agencies (NCDOT, CARB), industry, and others.

In addition to funding via NC State, as a Visiting Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Dr. Frey contributed to the development of a large inter-disciplinary and inter-institutional proposal for the Personalised Real-Time Air Quality Informatics System for Exposure – Hong Kong (PRAISE-HK) program, for which Dr. Frey is a founding member and the exposure task lead.
